Why have an older baby session?

Please don’t feel like because you missed the newborn window you have missed your chance to have gorgeous photos of your baby while they are still small. My older baby sessions are a lovely celebration of your child and welcoming them into your family, capturing their details that will still be changing so fast! From their chubby cheeks, longer eyelashes, sweet smiles and their beautiful hair.

These sessions are much shorter than my newborn sessions because we aren’t aiming for baby to fall asleep during this session like we would for a newborn session so typically, once baby’s essential needs are met they are often very happy to get straight into modelling and therefore don’t need as much warm up time.

What to expect from you older baby session

An older baby session is perfect for those with little ones aged 8 weeks and above (ideally 12-16 weeks). If you missed the newborn window (ideally 5-14 days but can be up to 6 weeks) through illness, not feeling ready or simply not booking your session early enough (I recommend from the 20 week scan) then this session gives us the chance to capture your baby while they are still ‘new’! It is likely that baby will not be as comfortable in some of the poses needing more flexibility (such as the head on hands composite you may have seen, or with their legs tucked under their tummy) and may not be as happy naked as younger babies but the younger the baby the more likely it is they will be happy wrapped up and possibly even naked.

For the most part of the session, baby will likely be awake and this will be more the case the older they are. I recommend these sessions are up to around 4 months old, any older than that and a sitter session when they are confidently sitting would be more appropriate. For an older baby session I will often pose baby in some of the same props I use for newborn sessions (as appropriate depending on baby’s age and flexibility) and on my beanbag with a lovely wrap over them. The best thing about an older baby session is capturing more of their personality and often their beautiful smiles!

The details are not forgotten and if baby doesn’t fall asleep during their session we just get a bit more creative in capturing these during their more still moments if possible! I also have the bed in The Cabin set up for some beautiful, natural images too and to add more variety to your gallery.

Within 1 week of your session you will receive your online gallery and choose which collection you wish to purchase

Step 4

Receive your final fully edited images 3 to 4 weeks later. Artwork, prints and albums have their own delivery timescales
